Moving to East End: From Accepted Offer to Your First Week

by Deborah Herres

An accepted offer starts a series of decisions, appointments, and handoffs. Use this East End moving guide to organize them into a manageable sequence. Your purchase agreement, lender, title company, and agreed possession terms determine the actual dates; this is a planning framework, not a fixed closing schedule.

After the offer is accepted: put every deadline in one place

Ask your agent to walk through the contract’s dates, responsibilities, and next decisions with you. Add the relevant inspections, financing milestones, document reviews, closing, and possession arrangements to a shared checklist. Identify who to contact for each item and how you will receive updates.

For an East End property, resolve the questions specific to that home early: parking or access arrangements, association responsibilities, improvement records, and any inspection or insurance questions related to its setting. The East End neighborhood guide can help you organize the location comparison; the contract and professional reviews govern the purchase itself.

While the purchase is progressing: prepare the move without assuming the date is final

  • Get written moving estimates. Describe stairs, narrow turns, loading access, parking limitations, and large furniture accurately. For a move between states, use FMCSA’s mover-selection resources to check registration and complaint history.
  • Review the booking terms. Understand cancellation, rescheduling, deposits, delivery windows, and what happens if possession changes.
  • Measure the route inside. Confirm large furniture can pass through doors and stairways. For an association building, check move-in scheduling, elevator reservations, and any required notices.
  • Plan essential services. Confirm providers for the exact address and coordinate start dates with the agreed possession arrangements. Keep a written record of confirmations.

Before closing: review the numbers and the handoff

Use the CFPB Closing Disclosure explainer to understand the loan terms, payment, closing costs, and cash to close. For mortgages covered by this requirement, the lender must provide the disclosure at least three business days before closing. Ask your lender or closing professional about anything that differs from what you expected.

Confirm payment instructions directly with your closing professional using a trusted, independently verified phone number. Do not rely on an unexpected email or message changing where funds should go. Schedule the final walkthrough with your agent and review agreed repairs, included items, property condition, keys, access devices, and the possession time.

Moving day: make the first evening easy

Keep a separate essentials bag with medications, chargers, important documents, toiletries, bedding, and a few basic kitchen items. Label boxes by their destination room. Share an arrival and loading plan with the movers, and keep entrances and stairs clear.

Once you have possession, locate the main water shutoff, electrical panel, and relevant equipment manuals. Arrange to update locks and access codes, and confirm smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms are present and functioning as appropriate. Photograph the condition of delivered items and follow the mover’s process promptly for any concerns.
